Awards 2018

Achievements of Researchers:

 

Prof. Beena Kalisky who heads the lab for magnetic sensitive measurements at the Department of Physics, was selected by Globes magazine as one of Israel’s 50 most influential women of 2018, for her construction of a unique microscope enabling scientists to observe and photograph the quantum world, which will advance research and development of new drugs.

 

 

 

Prof. Doron Aurbach of the Department of Chemistry, head of the Electrochemistry group, received the 2018 Eric and Sheila Samson Prime Minister’s Prize, the world’s largest monetary award in the field of alternative fuels − a source of pride and honor for the entire national and international energy research community, as well as for BIU.

 

 

 

 

Prof. Dror Fixler was appointed as an associate editor of the IEEE Photonics Journal. Prof. Fixler’s recent work, highlighted in Advanced Science News, is an innovative optical method for attaining highly accurate clinical physiological measurements of cylindrical tissues, such as earlobes, lips, and fingertips.

 

 

 

 

Prof. Moshe Deutsch, Professor Emeritus of Physics, and a member of BINA, is also a former head of the Division of Exact Sciences and Technology in the ISF (Israel Science Foundation), and of the National Synchrotron Committee of the Israel Academy of Sciences. He was appointed as Israel's representative in the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI), an advisory body to the EU on science policy-making and infrastructure. ESFRI evaluates European multinational consortia and big-science establishments, and publishes the biannual Road Map for European research infrastructure. Prof. Deutsch's research addresses soft matter and liquid surfaces and interfaces, using optical and synchrotron x-ray methods.

 

 

Dr. Nissan Yissachar, a senior lecturer at the Mina and Everard Goodman Faculty of Life Sciences, and a member of BINA, has received several awards in the past years:  Israel Cancer Association award for Excellence in Research; Individual Research Grant and New-Faculty Equipment Grant – both from the ISF (Israel Science Foundation); and a  Joint Broad–ISF research grant.
