Awards 2017
Researchers Awards 2017:
Prof. Doron Aurbach, member of BINA and the Department of Chemistry has recently won the Frumkin Memorial Medal for his achievements across fundamental aspects of electrochemistry, especially in the area of batteries, where he is recognized as the founder of the field of rechargeable Mg batteries. The Frumkin Medal is the International Society of Electrochemistry's (ISE) highest award. Earlier this year, Prof. Aurbach was awarded the Allen J. Bard Award in Electrochemical Science for developing high energy density lithium ion batteries, super capacitors and novel electro-analytical and spectro-electrochemical methods for a sensitive electrochemical system. Prof Aurbach head the cross-institutional collaboration Israel National Center for Electrochemical Propulsion (INREP), dedicated to the research and development of energy solutions in Israel and the world
Dr. Malachi Noked, a senior lecturer at the Department of Chemistry and BINA member, whose research ddresses interfacial modification of electrochemically active surfaces by functional thin films, received the prestigious tri-annual Alon Fellowship for Outstanding Young Researchers from the Planning and Budgeting Committee at Israel's Council for Higher Education
Prof. Eli Sloutskin, BINA member who heads the Soft Condensed Matter Physics Lab at the Physics Department, was awarded the 2017 University Rector's Award for Innovation in Scientific Research, for his team’s discovery of a new phenomenon in liquid droplets
Prof. Avi Zadok, BINA faculty member, and a researcher at the Faculty of Engineering at BIU. , received BIU's Rector Award for Innovation in Scientific Research for 2017. His research is geared at improving the performance of fiber-optic communication by incorporating specific materials in silicon-photonic devices. Additionally, he utilizes optical fibers to enhance sensing and processing of radio and microwave signals
Prof. Zeev Zalevsky, director of BINA’s Nano-Photonics Center, researcher at the Faculty of Engineering at BIU and an expert in the generation and manipulation of light for information processing and biological sensing. Over the past months, he was named recipient of the SPIE Startup Challenge Winner Prize, for developing tactile cornea stimulation can be interpreted visually and received TechConnect's Innovation Award for the development of a remote and hands-free bio-sensing technology. Also in 2017, Zalevsky received the International Association of Advanced Materials' (IAAM) Scientist Medal for 2017 for a notable and outstanding contribution in the field of Advanced Materials Science and Technology, and won the 1st-place PHOTONICS Award by Startup World
Students Awards 2017:
Oshra Betzer
Israel Society for Medical and Biological Engineering (ISMBE) award for outstanding PhD students for her research achievements and significance of her research to the biological engineering field 2017.
Racheli Ron
The Israel Vacuum Society IVS2017 Female Scientist Award 2017
Prestigios scholarship
Over the past months, an impressive number of BINA students have received awards, scholarships, and other academic excellence prizes from governmental organizations (such as the Council for Higher Education, government ministries, and others), granting agencies (BSF), and scientific associations (ISMBE, MRS, and more), in recognition of their exceptional merit and academic excellence.
