Faculty Awards, Prizes and Designations
Dr. Ayal Hendel of the Mina and Everard Goodman Faculty of Life Sciences, and a new member of BINA at Bar-Ilan University, received the Israel Science Foundation (ISF) grant together with Prof. Raz Somech of Tel Hashomer Haim Sheba Medical Center for their study of innate immune system diseases. This groundbreaking research uses genome editing and CRISPR technology to improve the diagnosis of primary immunodeficiency and develop personalized gene therapy for these diseases.
Prof. Avinoam (Avi) Zadok, Head of the Fiber-Optics and Integrated Photonic Lab at the Alexander Kofkin Faculty of Engineering, and member of BINA at Bar-Ilan University lecturer at the Alexander Kofkin Faculty of Engineering, was elected as senior member of the Optical Society of America (OSA). The OSA Senior Membership nomination recognizes Prof. Zadok's experience and professional accomplishments in the field of optics and photonics.
Prof. Beena Kalisky of the Department of Physics and BINA at Bar-Ilan University was elected as a member of The Israel Young Academy. Over the next four years, Prof. Kalisky, Head of the SQUID Imaging Lab, and her peers, all committed and well-recognized scientists, will lead the efforts of strengthening Israel's academic achievements.
Prof. Dror Fixler, Director of BINA, lecturer at the Alexander Kofkin Faculty of Engineering, was elected as senior member of the Optical Society of America (OSA). The OSA Senior Membership nomination recognizes Prof. Fixler's experience and professional accomplishments in the field of optics and photonics.
Dr. Tomer Lewi, a new member of the Alexander Kofkin Faculty of Engineering and BINA at Bar-Ilan University, received the 2019 Israel Science Foundation (ISF) Personal Research Grants award and the Israel Science Foundation (ISF) New-Faculty Equipment Grants award. Dr. Lewi's field of research includes nano photonics, light-matter interactions, metamaterials, plasmonics and Infrared nano spectroscopy.
