Single-step technique allowing formation of microscaled thermally stable polymer honeycomb reliefs demonstrating reversible wettability

The procedure allowing single-step formation of microscaled thermostable polymer honeycomb patterns is reported. Polymer substrates soluble in chlorinated solvents were pulled from the solvents before their final dissolution and placed into a humid atmosphere. Honeycomb patterns were deposited by this method on polyetherimide, polysulfone (PSF), and polyethersulfone (PESF) substrates. PSF and PESF substrates demonstrated reversibly switchable wetting under UV irradiation/heating cycles strengthened by the Cassie-Baxter wetting regime. Copyright (C) 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
