  • Newsletter Issue 13 -Aug 2021

    Dear friends, Although COVID-19 seems to be on the rise again and will probably challenge us for years to come, at BINA—as throughout Israel—it feels like we are on the way to normalcy. One indication is the revival of our newsletter. Others include the opening of the Joseph Fetter Nano-Art Museum and a number of recent conferences that drew hundreds of students, leading researchers from all over the country and people who seek knowledge and science; the thirst of our public is evident.

    Dear Friends, As was the case around the world, the COVID-19 pandemic stirred things up quite a bit here in Israel, causing us to change our plans and set a new agenda in accordance with new needs and challenges. The Bar-Ilan Institute for Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials stepped up throughout the crisis—even during the Passover holiday and the peak of the lockdown restrictions.

    It is my pleasure to start this newsletter at the mark of the Jewish New Year and our sacred holidays with a passage from "Unetanah Tokef" prayer: "And all creatures shall parade before You as a troop". These sacred lyrics remind us of the responsibility we have to one another, being part of a unit; the higher the rank, the greater the responsibility one carries on their shoulders.

Despite the University’s latest budgetary cuts which were felt also at BINA, we continue to reap the fruits of our success, sustaining a fast-paced momentum and carrying out countless projects and initiatives
  • Newsletter Issue 9 - November 2018

    It’s been an amazing year full of exciting developments and achievements. In the international arena: Two research collaboration agreements were signed with nano institutes. One with the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) in Portugal, following an initial meeting in May at a conference hosted by BINA, and a second meeting in Portugal in September. Four joint research groups were selected among the 11 groups who submitted applications. The teams will receive research grants co-funded by both institutes. As part of our efforts to include students in the Institute’s activities, a few students travelled with us to Finland and Portugal and to other events abroad.

    I am very excited to share with you the spring issue of the BINA newsletter −the first edition since the beginning of my term as Institute Director. In the last few months we were able to obtain a respectable ranking for BINA –between 200 and 300 in the Shanghai Academic Ranking– undoubtedly a testament to BINA’s excellence.

    Greetings! The Bar Ilan Institute for Nanotechnology and Advanced materials (BINA) has grown by leaps and bounds since it was founded in 2007. Along with all the usual indicators of academic growth – faculty recruitment, publications, patents, collaborations and infrastructure – the faculties of science are blessed by an ever-expanding community of alumni. The BINA Alumni Newsletter – the first edition of which you are now reading – is a natural outgrowth of the Alumni Conferences held last year which attracted over 400 participants.
