Nano M. Sc. Program
BINA’s new Master’s level program in nanotechnology received academic approval in 2009, and in 2010, BINA welcomed its first class of M.Sc. students. This pioneering group includes young scientists trained in chemistry, physics and the life sciences at Bar Ilan University, as well as other institutions.
Education at the Master’s level emphasizes both hands-on experience and nanotechnology theory. Central to the training is the highly successful “Advanced Lab in Nanotechnology,” in which each M.Sc. student conducts two mini-research projects: one related to the design, preparation and characterization of nanoparticles, and the other related to nano-fabrication. In the process of preparing and analyzing these materials, the students learn about various synthesis and fabrication methodologies. In addition, they learn the scientific principles behind the cutting-edge instrumentation available at BINA, and familiarize themselves with basic operation techniques.
Masters students’ theoretical work begins with an “Introduction to Nanoscience and Technology,” a mandatory course taught by BINA Senior Lecturer and microscopy expert Dr. Yuval Garini. In this course, students learn basic concepts of nano-scale behavior, and how these concepts play out in various scientific disciplines. Students also choose subject-specific courses related to their individual academic interest.
